My Friends — Red Hot Chili Peppers

Here’s a custom tab from yours truly. It’s brief, one I whipped up in Sibelius during a lesson. I get really annoyed with tabs online because A) It always seems like it’s incorrect, and B) they never include the rhythm. I should put a disclaimer in here that I tabbed these out for use in a private lesson. They may not reflect the song exactly as the original artist played it because I may simplify things here and there. Whenever I do so, I do so for a reason pertaining to my private lesson. [/end disclaimer].
Now, since I wrote these out during a lesson, I suppose I should explain them a bit. I have to kind of remember my thought process while tabbing these out…
In the recording, the intro/verse is picked using a pick, but for my lessons I use this song as an exercise in finger picking. For your right hand (or your picking hand), leave your index, middle, and ring fingers on the G, B, and E string respectively. Don’t take them off, they will always be picking those strings. Your thumb will pick the lowest three strings (D, A, and E).
The Chorus is strummed and picked with a pick. The boxes below the chorus line represent the two bridges of the song. The left box is what you would play during the first solo, the second box is the vamp at the end of the song. Hope this makes a bit of sense, as I post more of these, I hope to get better at explaining things via a blog. Much easier to explain things in person. Here’s the tab along with the video to “My Friends” so you can hear the song:

after just listening to the song again, I realize that the A chord during the chorus should actually be this Aadd9 chord:
e - 0
B - 0
G - 6
D - 7
A - 7
E - 5
