Bands You (probably) Haven’t Heard Of — Earth To Andy

Charlottesville, VA, in the early 90’s was a hotbed of musical buzz. The Dave Matthews Band was beginning their rise to world domination. Bands and musicians along the east coast were moving into the area by the truckload to try to catch the wave. Nationally touring bands like 311, Incubus, Helmet, They Might Be Giants, Fishbone, Kings X, and Living Colour made regular stops on their tours to TRAX music hall. “The Next Seattle”, the were calling it. High hopes.

And during this flurry of musical energy, the Dave Matthews Band wasn’t the only act to rise from such humble beginnings. Though fate would only take them to a fraction of the public acclaim, Earth to Andy appeared on the radar in 1997, were signed to Giant Records (Warner Brother’s replacement label for Geffen Records), toured with Stone Temple Pilots and Fuel at the height of their respective fames, released several singles to radio and MTV… and damn did they rock live.

ETA released an album in 1999, “Chronicle Kings”. Produced by Nick Lauany (prod. for Silverchair, American Hi-Fi, and Semisonic), “Chronicle Kings” was released on Giant Records, but when Giant fell into financial trouble in 2003, the band’s backing fell through, and Earth to Andy was forced to disband. Members of the band would go on to become members of other bands that I’ll bet you know… Train (Tony Lopacinski, guitar) and Tonic (Kevin Murphy, drums).

Andy himself continues to write, record, perform and produce music of all kinds out of Charlottesville, VA, though less aggressive, the flavor is unmistakable. Below are some links that I hope you all enjoy.
